A building collapsed in Kumareshwar Nagar on Belagavi road in Dharwad. It has been found that there was some construction-related work going on n the third floor of the building. As many as 60 shops were already rented out in the building. The police are currently at the site conducting a rescue operation. Former Minister, Vinay Kulkarni, admits that the building belonged to his relatives. According to eye witnesses, the building collapsed suddenly when as many as 150 people were inside. The residents alleged that the quality of construction of the building had been poor since the very beginning. This incident has raised many questions about building permission and inspections in the area. As many as 10 ambulances have been brought to the site of this tragic incident. So far, 19 people have been rushed to the civil hospital in Dharwad and 5 more people have been rescued from the debris. This is the second time a major building collapse has occurred in Dharwad. The rescued have informed the rescuers that more than 50 people are still stuck under tonnes of mortar and cement. Unfortunately, one person has been found deceased.
