Island Or Badland?

Hong Kong is on the way to build one of the world’s largest artificial islands with a staggering $79 billion price tag. This island will be the city’s most expensive infrastructure project till date and is found to be four times the cost of building HK (Hong Kong) international airport. This island will be approximately three times the size of New York’s Central park and will provide up to 260,000 flats.

They also plan to build another 700 hectares artificial island around Lantau, but have not released any further information. Lantau is also home to a new mega-bridge launched in 2018 (longest sea bridge) connecting Hong Kong to neighbouring Macau and mainland China.

Critics say this could damage the environment, especially marine life with many also expressing disappoinment over the lack of public say in the plans. Thousands of people have taken to the streets to protest against the plans and have also warned that the dwindling number of the pink dolphins in waters surrounding Lantau may disappear completely due to large scale infrastructure project.

Do you think this is necessary? Or do you agree with the critics? Comment down below…

I think there is no need for an artificial island. Can people not be happy with the original beauty and aura of the nature .
