Japan Files Complaint Against India

Japan has reached out to WTO (World Trade Organisation) to complain against duties (taxes on imports) of 20% on mobile phones and mobile equipment like base stations, routers, circuit boards and other components that go into them. Japan has said that India has raised rates after ‘Make in India’ (business plan to encourage more goods from India) programme was launched and these duties are in excess of what is allowed by WTO.

Earlier this year, Australia and Brazil had complained against sugar subsidies in India and the US has been contending the farmer subsidies.
