(Update!! It is recommended that you read- Hong Kong protest in order to understand this article)
This Saturday, Hong Kong leader, Carrie Lam delayed the implementation of a law that stated that all citizens of Hong Kong could be handed over to mainland China. The law was delayed after hundreds and thousands of people protested against it, resulting in the cities largest and most violent street protest in decades. This piled up putting high pressure on Lam. She said, “After repeated internal deliberations (discussions) over the last two days, I now announce that the government has decided to suspend the legislative amendment exercise, and restart our communication with all sectors of society, do more explanation work and listen to different views of society.”
Political opponents declared that the bill should be scrapped completely instead of just being delayed. Some protest organisers even said that they will conduct another rally, demanding Lam to step down. She requested the public to ” give her another chance” and even said that she had been a civil servant for decades and still had work she wanted to do.
Do you think she should step down?
