Heavy rains leading to floods have displaced millions of people across North and North eastern India, Nepal and Bangladesh. Around 76 people are reported to have lost their lives in these 3 regions. People in Assam and Bihar are far from home due to Nick, sorry rain Fury(Ignore lame marvel reference🤦♀️).
In Bihar, which is one of the worst affected states, 1.9 million people have been displaced. Bihar’s regions bordering Nepal have been too prone to flooding every year and this year is no exception. In Assam, the death toll reached 15 people and over 43 lakh people in 31 out of 32 districts are affected creating a grim situation. The Kaziranga national park, home to the Indian rhino is also under water. Over 4000 villages in Assam are underwater and the upper part of Assam is cut off by road
Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has spoken with the chief minister of Assam and assured full help and support from the centre. Rescue operations are evacuating people from low lying areas to relief camps all over the state. These efforts are been taken by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Do you think intensity of floods has increased due to climate change? How can we help these people?
