Water Wars

Pakistan and India have been sparring over the revoking of Article 370 for the last few days. Now Pakistan is saying that India is trying to use water as a weapon by releasing water from a dam without prior notice.

India has rejected this claim, saying that no extraordinary discharges have been made from the reservoirs. India said that the extra water flowing downstream into Pakistan is from the overflowing Satluj river. Some parts of Pakistan have been flooded as a result.

The sharing of water between the countries is governed by the Indus water treaty. Pakistan’s agriculture largely depends on the water from Indus and its tributaries. Despite this, India has said that peace in the region is necessary for continued co-operation. What are your suggestions to resolve this issue?
