As many waited with bated breath for India’s spacecraft Vikram to land on lunar south pole, there was disappointment galore when ISRO lost touch with the lander. This was a soft landing being attempted on the south pole where they could be water or ice. The scientists lost touch with it in the last stages of the descent. (See article: Chandrayaan 2 for more)
A scientist from ISRO said the descent was as going as planned upto 2.1 km after which contact was lost. Only US, China and Russia have successfully landed on the moon.
PM Narendra Modi told ISRO scientists that they what they have accomplished is no small achievement and ups and down are part of life.
Do you think it is important for India to invest in space missions?
