What’s Up in Kashmir?

With the abolishment of article 370 this year many have been worried about the situation in Kashmir. These tensions also exist among the members of the international community and so their focus will be on Jammu and Kashmir. A team of 28-members from the European Union will visit the state to get a feel of the ground situation on Tuesday, October 29th. This team met Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Monday.

They discussed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and spoke about the human rights violation. This was also a topic of discussion in a meeting of US lawmakers. Alice Wells, the Acting US Assistant Secretary of State who had “raised concerns” with the Indian government regarding the detentions of local residents and political leaders, which included three former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir. She also stated that they had favored the Indian authorities to respect human rights and restore full access to services, including internet and mobile networks. However, it was agreed that the Indian government’s move in Jammu and Kashmir was an internal matter of India. The Indian government had also assured the international community that it is taking steps to improve and smoothen the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
