For the first time since 88 years, Mumbai police will get a mounted horse unit. This unit will first be seen on 26th January this Sunday in the Republic Day Parade.
They were originally disbanded to due to traffic issues but have now been reinstated as an official part of the Mumbai Police force. The costume (uniform) has been specially designed by famous designer Manish Malhotra. While it is hard to maintain horses in crowded areas, the police believe that a man on a horse can work a lot more than 30 men on feet.
Currently, they have 13 trained horses and will soon acquire more.
